Newbie: How do Instal gumaxdd

I'm brand new to wiki.
1. I placed the gumaxdd folder in the "skin" directory. Then placed GuMaxDD.php & GuMaxDD.deps.php in the skin directory (outside of gumaxdd)
2. I opened DefaultSettings.php and inserted gumaxdd with the lower case "d's" $wgDefaultSkin = 'gumaxdd';
Nothing I do to the main.css style sheet changes the site. looks the same as when I installed it.
any help would be appreciated

Yes, refreshed every time I make a change in css, emptied cache and cookies. Still Nothing

do you think it could be that I don't have it installed on the root, but in a sub folder?

No... php files and sub folder must be in skins folder... what did you get now? default skin?

Yes the default shows up now. the PHP and the folder is in the skins folder

Did you log in wiki when you got default skin?

You mean from the front end login? yes. I logged in when I first installed it, and I've logged in several times since.

Make sure you log out the wiki... what skin did you see?

I also installed the Gumaxdd skin, and added the code in localsettings to make it the default skin. It did not work. But I can find the skin in preference menu.
