Image overlaps Menu Drop-down

I am having a problem with the menu drop-down. When there an image within the length of the drop-down (ie. top of the body content), the drop-down list appears under the image, thus hiding the drop-down option. What can be done to correct this problem?

What file extensions are allowed for 'upload attachments'? I have tried doc/htm/rtf, and so far they have rejected. I would like to send a screen shot.

Would setting position:relative and increasing z-index work?

Haven't tried, but just as an idea.

I have exactly the same problem, but only on IE6. Unfortunately I have a userbase which is mainly IE6. The dropdown comes on top of the images in Safari, but on IE6 it disappears underneath. Perhaps IE6 ignores the z-index?

Does anyone have any idea what I could try to fix this? I'm thinking it may be the transparency which is creating a problem here. It is transparent on top of text though.
